Speaking in Tongues. This a rant so forgive me in advance. I am so tired of hearing some people tell other people their prayer language or tongues is not of God. I have often heard this from those who spoke with great conviction as though they were the authority on the matter. It is unfortunate that some people believe they are the inspectors for everyone’s relationship with God. I encourage everyone to know God for themselves because you can be lead astray by people,
John 10:4-5 (KJV)
“When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”
John 10:27-28 (KJV)
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Learn God’s Voice for Yourself
Speaking in tongues is only part of the blessing. It will take a little time but as you begin to spend time in the Word and prayer, you will begin to know God’s voice clearer and clearer. Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. There is no question too small or too silly that God does not delight to tell you. Stop asking people what you need to know and start asking God. My sheep hear my voice and a stranger they will not follow. Cultivated the God’s voice is one of the most important things you can do as a believer in Christ.
Speaking in Tongues is Biblical
You first hear of the baptism in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues in the second chapter of Acts.
Acts 2:1-31 (KJV)
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This passage goes on to say the men were heard speaking recognizable languages from the different region. Some will use this passage to say that if you are not speaking a recognizable language, then you are speaking false tongues.
Most People are Not Experts on Languages
“The Ethnologue catalog of world languages, which is one of the best linguistic resources, currently lists 6909 living languages. About 6% of them have more than a million speakers each, and collectively account for 94% of the world population.” read more
Do you see how foolish it is for anyone who is not a linguistic expert to try to tell someone their tongues is not a known language? Unless you are speaking Spanish, French, Mandarin, German, or most recognizable languages, a person has no idea what language you are speaking or if it is a tongue of man or angels according to 1 Corinthians 13:1.
So, the next time someone tells you are prayer language is fake, ask them how many languages do they speak. Or how many angelic dialects are they encountered? That will pretty much shut them down! LOL!
Speaking in Tongues – False Tongues
It is spiritual malpractice to go around teaching believers they may have false tongues. I have met very few spirit-filled believes whose tongues seemed suspect. It is usually a matter the person has to develop their prayer language not that their prayer language is demonic. You can have a prayer language that is only a few words, and as you continue to use it, it will grow and become more fluent.
Nowhere in scripture does is speak of false tongues. 1 Cor. 13:1 states “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” The scripture clearly states that there are tongues of men (other languages) and tongues of angels.
Your Experience with God is Unique
Everyone’s experience with the holy spirit it different and when you try to compare your experience with others, you may believe you have received something inferior. It is not a contest, like “Who Wore it Best.” in a fashion magazine.
God is your Father, and he is a kind and loving God. He does not trick us. The Lord does not play with our minds. When we ask him to bless us with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he does just that. Never compare your experience with anyone else. Know that you are unique and your experience is precious because it has been given to by the Lord. Keep praying, keep using the prayer language, and it will continue to grow and develop. It will also change from time to time.
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Be Lead by the Holy Spirit and not by People
When I received the baptism in the Holy my prayer language was very fluent, when my sister received the Holy Spirit baptism, she only spoke a few syllables. Christians told my sister she didn’t have the real baptism in the Holy Spirit. Shen went from person to person to pray for her. She even went all the way to another state because she heard whoever this minister prayed for, received the Holy Ghost. After hey prayed for her and she still only had those few little words. She decided to accept the language she had receive and thanked God for what she had.
Her prayer language eventually became fluent, and she has been saved for 45 years and has ministered the Gospel all over the world! You have to get away from people who are telling you what you have, and what you do not have in God. It will cause you to be confused, tormented and feeling they are less than a real Christian.
Pray to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit:
Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. You are my heavenly Father, and you desire only good things for me. Lord, I ask that you fill me with your Holy Spirit, baptize me with power and fire, and the manifestation of tongues, my prayer language. I receive it right now by faith, thank you. (Now begin to praise God, and receive the gift of God’s Holy Spirit).
