A good thing to ask yourself during each day is, “will I open to the Holy Spirit today?” I understand it is not always easy as we zip through our busy day. Dealing with work, kids, school, the church we don’t always stop to get God’s direction on every matter. That is why I love when God stops me dead in my tracks and gives me instruction! The scripture tells us that we are the sheep of His pasture and that His sheep hear His voice. God is always speaking, are we always hearing?
Be Open to the Holy Spirit
I remember when the first time I gave a message in tongues. I was a very young Christian and did not know anything about spiritual gifts. After praise and worship, the anointing was on me so heavily, I thought that I would burst. My heart beat so hard, I thought I thought everyone around me could hear it. God wanted to use me to give a message in tongues, but I did not know what to do, so I did nothing. I was afraid it might not be God, or I would say the wrong thing. Does this sound familiar to you?
God wanted to use me to give a message in tongues, but I did not know what to do, so I did nothing. I was afraid it might not be God, or I would say the wrong thing. Does this sound familiar to you? Let me say when the Holy Spirit is resting on you, there is no mistake about it. When you are quick to yield or step out to obey him, your words will bring encouragement and healing.
Don’t Let Fear Stop You
Have you ever wondered, what happens if no one interprets a message in tongues? What if I am wrong, and it is not God? What if they start singing, right when I begin to give the Word? If we think too long, we will talk ourselves right out of obeying God. When you feel the prompting of the Spirit, the enemy will give you every reason why you should not speak. The best way to move forward is to Step Out In Faith anyway!
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. (Amplified Bible)
God does not have favorites, and he will use whoever he wants, whenever he wants. It may as well be you! Do don’t have to be super-spiritual, but you do have to be available. When we are open and obey the leading of the Lord, he uses us to be a blessing to many.
Step Out in Faith
Step out in faith when Gods speaks to you, pray, sing, give a word or knowledge. Remember, the gifts of the spirit are not for you, they are for others. Someone needs what God is giving you. Remember, the Lord is looking for an obedient servant! 1 Corinthians 12:7 – But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. KJV
How to be Open to the Holy Spirit
Develop a habit of prayer, reading God’s word and waiting on the Lord. It is during these time you will gain strength and confidence. Make a special effort each day, to stop and say, “Lord, I am open to you today!” “Who do you want me to speak to today”Now wait for new adventures and opportunities to unfold. Revelations 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come into him and will sup with him, and he with me. KJV:
Prayer: Father I want to receive everything that you have for me. I ask that you help my mind, my soul, and my spirit be open to you Help me to hear your voice when you speak and help me to be quick to obey. Amen
