What does it mean be a born again Christian? I believe many don’t understand what it really means to be born again. There are several words synonymous with the term, ‘Born Again’, such as Salvation, saved, or reborn. It is the act of repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus’ sacrifice for sin, and the finished work of the Cross. Does your church teach what the Bible says about this? It is the greatest hope God can offer to man.
Salvation or being born again has the power to take us from darkness to light, and spiritual death to everlasting life! No man, woman, boy or girl can enter heaven without it. Salvation is not becoming a member of a church, but an intimate personal relationship with God.
Born Again In Scripture
Church membership does not guarantee your sins are forgiven, nor does is assure you a place in heaven. The Bible says, John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. So, you can see that this is a requirement of God if we are to enter into His kingdom.
One of my favorite scriptures is 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new. When you are Born Again, everything that you were has passed away and you become a new spiritual man or woman. He takes all your sins and throws them into the deepest sea and no longer takes account of them.
What Being a Born Again Christian is Not
Becoming a born-again Christian has nothing to do with joining a church. It is not being baptized in water. However, water baptism is commanded as a public or outward display of what has taken place in your heart. Being born again is the act of believing the Jesus is the Son of God, repenting of our sins and receiving Jesus a Savior.
If you have joined a church, that is a good thing, but there must come a time when you are confronted with your sin and what you decided to do about it. The church should be the place, where the Gospel is taught or preached. The gospel is the power of God unto Salvation. When you hear the Gospel, you will be faced with a major decision.
What is Repentance?
There must also be repentance if we are to truly to be Born Again. You can not merely confess that you believe in Jesus, and continue to live a life filled with sin. You must be willing to turn away from your sins and follow Christ and obey God’s word. In Greek the word repentance means compunction for guilt, including reformation; by implication reversal (of [another’s] decision) You must have a change of heart and make a decision to reform your life. When you have given your life to God there will be a change. There will be a change in your desires, a change in your actions and a change in your thing. 2Corinthians 5:17. AMP
Confess and Believe
Let’s see what the scriptures say in Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. So, we can see from Romans 10:9, 10 that we must believe in the death burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and make a confession of faith.
Some Christians use something called the Romans Road when leading someone to Christ. You might have never heard of Romans or the steps to salvation. Use it is only a guide. God is not legalistic and you may have receive Salvation without the Romans road. Many have received the Lord with a silent prayer of the heart. Salvation is this simple. God will knock on the door of your heart. When you realize your need for him, it has you who must let him in. The Hope of Salvation
