Have you ever wondered, what are spiritual gifts? Have you ever been in church and during the worship, you began to feel God had a vision, scripture, or word of encouragement for the body? Or prayed for a stranger, and you knew what they were going through? Or had a dream that later came true? You just may have a gifting from the Lord!
The Apostle Paul taught extensively on this. These abilities given by the Holy Ghost, to those who desire to receive them. They are supernatural in nature and are called grace gifts, because they are the expression of the grace of God. They cannot be earned, but are given by God, for the asking!
Do you want to be used by God? Well, if you are a believer, God wants us to grow beyond being a church member, to becoming ministers of the gospel. We are all called to the ministry, whether it is in your home town or abroad. He also wants to give you all the tools you need, to fulfill your ministry with excellence and completeness.
Your Gifts are to Bless Others
In 1 Corinthians 12, we learn that spiritual gifts are given to the believer by God, “that all may profit.” Verse 11 says they are given according to God’s divine will. Ephesians 4:12 says these gifts are given to for the preparation of service and to strengthen or build up the body of Christ.
The term “spiritual gifts” comes from the Greek, charismata and pneumatika. The plural for of the word charisma means, the expression of grace. This is God’s grace undeserved or earned. Pumatikon is the expression of Spirit. In short amazing endowments are the expression of God’s love, given and by grace.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28-31
1 Peter 4:10
How the Gifts are Used
Ministry is not restricted to be used only in church, or ministry meeting, but are portable in the sense they can be used wherever there is a need, for healing, deliverance, and restoration. When you open your heart to minister to other with compassion, God will flow through you. The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…Isaiah 61:1 NIV. Wherever there is a need, God can use us to help others.
Love Plus the Gifts
I Corinthians 13 it tells of the importance of having love, which is a spiritual fruit. Love is the very nature of God, and it has been shed abroad in the heart of every believer. When we are used by the Holy Ghost, and we minister in the love of God, Miracles will take place, and God is glorified. 1Corinthians 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
